I had the privlege of being a part of a great friend’s wedding this weekend in Washington DC. Never been there before, so I was excited to wander around and shoot photographs.
The only problem with that idea was that apparently the over-zealous security personnel in our Nation’s Capitol are on the lookout for terrorists, and apparently terrorists these days are walking around with $5,000 in camera equipment and more importantly they are using tripods.
I was very rudely harassed by “security guards” at the Lincoln and Jefferson monuments (thankfully nowhere else). I was told to leave the Lincoln memorial and told not to even think about setting foot on the steps of the Jefferson memorial. It’s my belief that if I had been standing there shooting portraits of Osama Bin Laden on the steps of the Jefferson Monument, they would have cuffed me and thrown me in jail and left OBL standing there laughing.
Anyway, I did have a great time despite their efforts and got a lot of nice photos. Here are some favorites:
Arlington National Cemetery, home to over 290,000 men and women who died serving our country.
The Vietnam Memorial
The Lincoln monument
The Jefferson monument
The WWII memorial (my personal favorite)
The FDR monument
And of course the Washington monument (that’s me by the way)
