The USS Nimitz comes home....a family is reunited.

This morning I had the privlege of being on hand when the USS Nimitz came home to San Diego. I was able to capture a few beautiful images of the ship as she came around the harbor.

Many of the 4,000+ crew members were reunited with their families, but I was there to photograph a special reunion - the Penn family from Coronado. Aboard the USS Nimitz was not only Larry Penn, a 20+ year veteran in the US Navy, but also his Son Brady on his first deployment. It's rare that a Father and Son are on the same ship, and I was there to photograph their reunion....along with some people called "Fox News". ;)

I'll let the photographs do the rest of the talking. Enjoy, and welcome home Sailors!

Family pictures at the Hotel Del Coronado beach

Tonight I had a great time shooting pictures of this family of four. Quite often a family of four includes two little ones, who like to eat sand and scream a lot. Since these "kids" were a bit older, things went a lot more smoothly. Although there was a little bickering (he's touching meeeeee) and one case of the hiccups. ;)

Anyway, here are a few samples.

Senior photos and family portraits at La Jolla Shores

Tonight I photographed John and his family at La Jolla Shores. John is a 2008 Senior at La Jolla Country Day High School.

We started in the shade in a grassy area near the bridge club.

Then it was time for some "attitude" photos of John and his Sister Elizabeth.

Next a few of John down near the water at sunset.

And finally some family photos, including Molly the family dog.

Studio maternity portraits 09.22.07

This morning we had the pleasure of photographing a family who is expecting their third Son in about a month. Fitting that we would post these photos right after the pictures of the USS Peleliu, because Dad is assigned to the Peleliu and was on the ship when we photographed her coming in yesterday! What a coincidence.

Anyway, on with the photos:

The USS Peleliu Comes Home

Today the USS Peleliu came home to San Diego, after a four month deployment on a humanitarian operation. I had the opportunity to photograph her coming into port. Here are several of my favorites.

Family beach pictures at the Hotel Del Coronado

Last night I had the privlege of photographing a beauitful family of six from Northern California. We got some great pictures of the whole family, mom and dad, and the kids individually.

We started in the green area out front, and got some fun ones of the kids.

Next a photo of the kids together.

Then it was out to the beach for some fun...

Studio newborn photos 09.11.07

This afternoon we had a studio session with a beautiful one week old bouncing baby boy. Well, maybe "bouncing" isn't the best word to describe him just yet - he slept through most of the session. This guy was as moldable as they come, and he just kicked back and relaxed no matter what position we put him in.

Here are a few favorite photos from today's newborn session.

San Diego HS Senior Portrait Photos

This evening I had the pleasure of photographing Sara, a local San Diego HS Senior. Sara was great to work with, laid back and had a great sense of humor.

We started in the courtyard, with some grass and flower photos.

Then a few shots along the outer area of the courtyard.

A quick stop on the hotel staircase on the way out to the beach.

Finally a clear sunset for great beach photos.

And lastly a nice closeup on the beach.

San Diego High School Senior Pictures - Photoshop Edit

Here's a little something I whipped up when I was fiddling around in Photoshop the other day. I started with a HS Senior photo that we did for Cody from Iowa. Dropped him on top of a photo of some flames and then took out the edges to get this cool effect. I thought it turned out quite well.

One year old baby photos at Balboa Park

This morning I had the pleasure of once again photographing this cutie, who is now one year old. We also did photos of her at three, six and nine months but all in our studio. This time we went out to Balboa Park!

Here are a few favorites.

Arizona lightning photos

Last week I made another trek over to beautiful Arizona for some photography. This is my favorite time of the year to visit because even though it was about 106 every day, every evening there were huge thunderstorms.

So here are a few favorites from the storms that I spent my evenings chasing. ;)

And last but not least, a photo taken from the dashboard of my car at 70MPH.

Newborn baby pictures 09.01.07

This morning we had the privilege of photographing little Calvin, a two week old little dude. Although at a birth weight of 9lbs 14oz, little might be the wrong word to use to describe him.

He needed a couple of snack breaks, and slept through a good deal of the session. But he did peek his eyes open a few times here and there.
