Maternity portraits 06.29.07

This evening we had the pleasure of photographing maternity portraits for Ed and Sarah.

They are expecting a beautiful baby in August, and wanted to capture some beautiful pregnancy photographs.

We shot with two backdrops and used a variety of lighting techniques and fabrics in our studio.

Family beach session at the Hotel Del Coronado 06.28.07

On Thursday evening we had the pleasure of photographing the O'Malley family at the Hotel Del Coronado.

A group of twenty from San Diego, Colorado, Illinois and Indiana vacationing here in San Diego, it was a perfect time for some family pictures.

We shot photos of each individual family, as well as the entire group. For having so many children, they did very well.

Thank you again! We'll have all of your photos done soon, and we hope you'll enjoy this little preview.

High School Senior Portraits at the Hotel Del 06.20.07

Wednesday evening I had the pleasure of photographing Nikki at the Hotel Del Coronado. Nikki and her family were on vacation from Iowa, and decided to have her portraits done while they were here.

We started in the interior of the hotel in a grassy area.

A quick wardrobe change, and a few more interior photos.

Finally we moved out to the beach for some sunset photos. It got a little chilly, but not too bad.

It was a pleasure to meet both Nikki and her Mom Chris. Thank you both for hiring us, I hope you had a good time. =)

Family beach portraits at the Hotel Del Coronado 6.18.07

Tonight I photographed a fun family of four from Arizona (note: it was about 45 degrees cooler here at sunset than it has been this week in Phoenix). San Diego is a popular tourist attraction to Arizona residents this time of year. First shot of the day:

Great family, fun session with a lot of variety. Some posed, some casual.

Here's a relaxing stroll on the beach (love those reflections).

Beach Portraits 06.16.07

Saturday evening we met a family of eight down at the Hotel Del Coronado for some beach portraits.

Here's one of Grandma and Grandpa.

We had a couple of youngsters, so the trick was to get them to look at the camera and not play in the sand. ;) They did just great, and we were able to get some nice photos.

Fletcher here wanted a few "attitude" shots of himself. I like this one.

And before the sun went down, we were able to get a few cool reflective shots as well.

Newborn portraits 06.16.07

Saturday we had the pleasure of photographing little Sophia, just two and a half weeks old. Here's a little chocolate edit of one of our favorites.

Just a teensy bit fussy at first, she got some food in her belly and was down for the count.

She was very posable for the latter parts of the session, we just flopped her around and she just snoozed right through the whole thing.

Mommy and Daddy did great, and Sophia only made one mess - we won't tell you who she got. ;)

2007 San Diego County Fair

This year we decided to enter seven of our photographs from the last year in the 2007 San Diego County Fair Photography Exhibition. Over 4,000 photographs were entered in 23 categories. Each category has a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place ribbon and cash prize. Photos can also earn Honorable Mention ribbons.

About 1,100 photos were chosen for display (about 1/4 of the submissions), but six of our seven photos were chosen for display. One of our photos got an Honorable Mention ribbon, but......

We took FIRST PLACE in the "Celebrating Heroes" category (the theme of this year's fair)!!!! Wow, we're still in shock.

After all of the first place winners are chosen, they compete against each other for Best In Show (the best photograph out of 4,000+ submissions). We fell just two votes short for Best in Show. aaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww..... Still pretty dang cool if you ask us!

Here is the photo, your First Place winner for the Celebrating Heroes category, titled "Born Into Freedom".

Newborn photos 06.02.07

This afternoon we met Jacob, a beautiful baby boy born on 5/21. Just LOOK at that hair!

We actually started out with the white backdrop today, for something a little different.

Then it was on to the black backdrop. I'm feeling a bit spunky tonight, so I'm going to play with the next three photos a bit. First some traditional b&w:

Next to some non-conventional "Mocha" chocolate effects:

And finally....Dad brought along the glove and jersey (wooo hooo!). We got some awesome photos, this was one of my favorites - with some contrasty sepia thrown in for effect:

Baby photos 06.02.07

This morning we had the pleasure of again photographing little Maria Fernanda. She's now nine months old, and we've done photos of her at three and six months as well.

We broke out a variety of little props for her, and she worked quite well with all of them.

This little baby carriage is just so cute.

Love this one, one of my favorites for sure.

Lastly, coffee anyone??

Sisters - shoot at the Hotel Del Coronado 06.01.07

This evening I had the pleasure of meeting Megan and Heather. They are Sisters and we did a photo shoot of the two of them at the Hotel Del Coronado.

We started out in the inner courtyard of the hotel, one of my favorite places. The hotel was nice enough to have a bunch of tables and chairs set up, so we had to work around those. Here's a serious shot of Heather:

Lucky for me, it was an overcast evening (woo hoo, great for ligthing). If I only had a dollar for every bright sunny day that I had to photograph at the beach - UGH! Here's a serious shot of Megan:

We then moved out to the beach for some photos by the lifeguard tower and finally at the concrete wall. Last photo of the day here:
